Trump was referencing a terror attack by ISIS from November 15, 2015 against NATO ally France. He claimed that if there had been less gun control in France and someone was armed, the victims could’ve been saved.
Bill Gates met with Trump in December 2016 and again in March 2017 and both times Trump asked him if HIV and HPV were the same thing. Per Gates, “Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference between HIV and HPV. So, I was able to explain that those are rarely confused with each other.”
The remarks came after Manafort was indicted and jailed for witness tampering. Manafort was Trump’s campaign manager for 5 months, personally picked Pence as his running mate, and was part the transition team. Manafort has since been convicted of tax and bank fraud, stemming from his work as a lobbyist for Russian interests in Ukraine.
The “thing” Trump appeared to be referring to was the abolition of slavery. Trump made the remarks during a call in to Fox and Friends. Trump has also compared himself to Lincoln.
The briefing was penned by Trump’s national security advisers. During the congratulatory phone call, Russian meddling in US elections was not discussed.
Putin has long maintained political control in Russia, disallowing any real competition, exercising ultimately authority over the media, and presiding over widespread corruption in elections. He has been President or prime minister since 2000.
