claimed to distance himself from his businesses, using stacks of unlabeled folders as proof?

Presidents divest their private businesses, usually putting them in a blind trust, in order to avoid conflicts of interest and breaking the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. While blind trusts are not necessary to fulfill the requirements of the Emoluments Clause, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush all did so, while Obama placed his holdings into standard index funds.

Trump refused either a blind trust or relinquishing ownership of his company. He instead said he would resign from all positions and hand control to his sons, with the promise that they would not discuss anything business related.

In January 2017, Trump held his first press conference as President-Elect. He used a large stack of unlabeled folders as proof that he had handed over his company to his sons. He did not allow reporters to look at their contents.

Don and Eric are going to be running the company. They’re going to be running it in a very professional manner. They’re not going to discuss it with me. Again, I don’t have to do this.

Trump also called the emoluments clause of the Constitution “phony” and claimed that Article II of the Constitution gave him “the right to do whatever I want.” Trump also repeatedly promised to release his tax returns both during his campaign and after becoming President.

said of Saudi Arabia, “I get along great with all of them…”?

At an Alabama rally during his campaign, Trump said,

Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much.

Trump created 8 businesses during his campaign that were linked to hotel interests in Saudi Arabia, 4 of which were registered the day of the rally in which he made his comments about Saudi Arabia.

Trump’s financial ties to Saudi Arabia go back further, still. In 1991, as he was scrambling to raise money to avoid bankruptcy, he sold his 282-foot Trump yacht “Princess” to Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin-Talal for $20 million, reportedly a third what he had originally paid. Four years later, bin-Talal joined other investors in a $325 million deal for Trump’s Plaza Hotel. In 2001, Saudi officials purchased the entire 45th floor of the Trump world Tower, which stands across from the United Nations building in New York, for $12 million.

Trump has since denied any conflicts of interest in his dealings with Saudi Arabia, particularly in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s assassination and ongoing involvement in Yemen’s civil war, contributing to a growing humanitarian disaster.

lifted US sanctions on three companies linked to a Russian oligarch?

The companies in question, aluminium giant US Rusal, En+ Group, and JSC EuroSibEnergo were partly owned by Oleg Deripaska, an ally to Russian President Putin. Deripaska has also been linked to Russian interference in US elections.

Trump previously attempted to obstruct sanctions on Russia that had been passed with bipartisan support in Congress.

dissolved his charity due to its “persistently illegal conduct”?

Charges were filed by the state of New York regarding the illegal manner in which Trump Foundation funds were disbursed for political campaigning purposes. The filing noted the charity’s “persistently illegal conduct.”

The charity had also been used to purchase a 6-foot tall portrait of Trump, and shifted away funds earmarked for cancer-stricken children.

Trump tweeted his anger at the unfairness of the situation, claiming that he would never settle.

Trump was then ordered by the court to pay $2 million to settle charges over his fraudulent charity, which he agreed to later that year. He had made similar claims about Trump University before it was also shut down and he was forced to settle for $25 million.

shut down Trump University and settled lawsuits for $25 million?

The for-profit real estate training program was founded in 2005 and ran for 5 years before being investigated for illegal business practices and defrauding its students. Amid two federal class-action lawsuits and one filed in new York state court, it was shut down in 2011.

Trump University held no accreditation, and used high-pressure sales tactics to sell seminars to its “students.” It’s Gold Elite package was priced at $35,000.

Trump settled immediately after the 2016 election for $25 million, despite having said he never would. In that suit, he blamed court decisions on the judge, claiming bias due to the judge’s Hispanic ethnicity.
