called his response to COVID-19 a Democrat hoax?

On February 28, 2020, Trump claimed at a South Carolina rally that COVID-19 was being politicized by Democrats, it being their “new hoax.” On that day, the US had 63 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Now the Democrats are politicizing the coranavirus. You know that, right? Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs, you see. How’s President Trump doing, they go, ‘oh not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue… This is their new hoax.

Trump addressed his handling of the virus during the rally, and had made mention of it during his State of the Union address earlier in the month. His claim of a hoax was referring to criticisms about his administration’s handling of the virus rather than the virus itself.

About two months later, Trump later claimed that he said no such thing, and clarified that it was “Do Nothing Democrats” and the “Mainstream Media” that was the hoax.

On the day of his tweet, the United States had 960,651 confirmed cases and suffered 54,256 deaths.

Trump similarly spent the early months of the pandemic continually dismissing concerns about COVID-19.

blamed Democrats for DACA’s demise?

When asked about DACA during the annual White House Easter Egg roll, Trump said,

The Democrats have really let them down. They really let them down. They had this great opportunity. The Democrats have really let them down. It’s a shame. And now people are taking advantage of DACA and that’s a shame.

Trump himself was responsible for ending DACA, though its phasing out has been held up in courts since.

announced that he would shut down DACA?

DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was a program created by President Obama that allowed undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation. It also allowed those people to become eligible for a work permit if they had no felonies or only minor misdemeanors on their record. It included some 700,000 people.

In September of 2017, Trump’s administration announced that it would shut down the program.

Trump put the onus on Congress to decide whether or not to create a permanent version through legislation.

Congress failed to pass any legislation on the issue, but the phase-out of DACA was held up in courts, and is to be taken up by the US Supreme Court in 2020. Trump also later blamed Democrats for DACA’s demise.

threatened to shut down social media platforms after being flagged for misleading information?

Trump made the suggestion on Twitter, accusing it and other platforms of silencing conservative voices.

The remark came after another of Trump’s tweets was flagged for misinformation about mail-in ballots.

At the time of his remarks, the United States had just reached 100,000 deaths due to COVID-19.

Trump’s past tweets have been met with similar flags, such as one in which he posted an edited video of Biden. He has also claimed that he lost the 2016 popular vote because of mass fraud, and said that mail-in voting meant no Republican would win an election again.

Now we’re going toward 50 – I’m hearing, or 60,000 people. One is too many. I always say it. One is too many, but we’re going toward 50 or 60,000 people. That’s at the lower – as you know the lower (end of the projections) was supposed to be 100,000 people.

Trump compares a testing swab to a Q-Tip.

This is what it’s about, right? Does it remind you of something? Reminds you of this, right? One’s a swab, one’s a Q-Tip. It’s actually different. It’s very sophisticated, actually.

So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light… And I then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute, and is there a way you can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning

Apr. 24 – 934,555 cases, 53,183 deaths.

Trump says he made comments about UV light and injecting disinfectant “sarcastically.”

Hopefully we’re going to come in under that 100,000 lives lost.

May 3 – 1,196,402 cases, 69,985 deaths.

We’re going to lose anywhere from 75, 80 to 100,000 people. That’s a horrible thing.

Trump speaks on Dr. Bright, a vaccine expert who was fired for pushing back against the unproven drugs Trump promoted.

I never met Dr. Bright. I don’t know who he is. I didn’t hear good things about him. I did not hear good things about him at all. To me, he seems like a disgruntled employee that’s trying to help the Democrats.

Trump reversed prior remarks on dissolving the coronavirus response team.

I thought we could wind it down sooner. But I had no idea how popular the task force is until, actually, yesterday when I started talking about winding it down.

talked about “nailing” Princess Diana after her death?

In his 1997 book The Art of the Comeback, Trump wrote, “I only have one regret in the women department – that I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer. I met her on a number of occasions. I couldn’t help but notice how she moved people. She lit up the room with her charm, her presence. She was a genuine princess – a dream lady.”

Trump also spoke about Princess Diana on-air during interviews with Howard Stern. During one such conversation after her death, Stern asked, “You could’ve nailed her?” Trump replied, “I think I could’ve.”

Stern and Trump also joked that Princess Diana would’ve needed an HIV test before Trump would’ve slept with her, referring to an earlier point in their conversation about HIV and dating.

“Hey Lady Di, would you go to the doctor?” Stern joked.

“Go back over to my Lexington Avenue doctor,” Trump added as though addressing the late princess. “We wanna give you a little checkup.”

tweeted a video of himself giving a Presidential speech from a movie?

The scene was from the 1996  film Independence Day. The tweet was derided for showing such an absence of leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic that the President had to co-opt the message of a fictitious President.

The actor from the scene, Bill Pullman, said of the tweet that “My voice belongs to no one but me.”

touted a new “super-duper missile”?

In May of 2020, Trump boasted of a new missile under development, which he described as a “super duper missile” that travels “17 times faster than what they have right now.” While Trump promised that it would provide leverage over Russia and China, the Pentagon had no comment.

The remark came amid Trump’s unveiling of early details about the US Space Force, the first new military branch established since the US Air Force in 1947.

Trump continued to tout the missile throughout the year.

was intrigued by a boy being thrown a block by a tornado?

On March 2-3, 2020, a tornado outbreak ravaged parts of western and central Tennessee. 25 people died and over 300 were injured.

On March 6, Trump visited the area to survey the damage.

Marine One over tornado ravaged neighborhoods in Tennessee. White House / Shealah Craighead

Trump brought up one of survivors, a young boy who had been thrown from his home by the tornado.

THE PRESIDENT: They just — all of a sudden, they’re watching television or something and, all of a sudden, they’re outside, walking on the street.

There was one young boy, I heard he was taken out of the house and —

MAYOR PORTER: He was. One minute he’s in his house, the next minute he’s laying in his yard. It happened that fast.

THE PRESIDENT: A couple of blocks away.

MAYOR PORTER: Yes.

Trump returned to the subject of the boy again just a few minutes later, making gestures of his spinning in the air and clumsily navigating being told he was the sole survivor from his family.

THE PRESIDENT …A lot of them have lost people within the family. One family got entirely wiped out. There was one case, though — I heard a young man was — an 8-year-old boy was ripped out, flown to a certain area, and dropped off at the street two or three blocks away. And they found him walking. And he said, “I just flew in the air.” And he was walking down the street two blocks away from his home. And how did his parents do? Do you know?

MAYOR PORTER: We don’t — we’re not for sure exactly how they turned up.

MR. HERRICK: They were found deceased.

THE PRESIDENT: They were deceased? They were dead.

MR. HERRICK: (Inaudible) only surviving member of the household, and lost his sibling as well.

THE PRESIDENT: So it took him and he said, “I was carried by the air, away from my house.” He came back. But his —

MR. HERRICK: He was (inaudible) the house over there and dropped him in the neighborhood back behind us.

THE PRESIDENT: He was over there. And his parents were killed.

MAYOR PORTER: And sister.

THE PRESIDENT: And his sister. So we’re going to go see some of the folks.

mocked “low I.Q. Crazy Mika” for “bleeding badly from a face-lift?”

Trump attacked the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, in tweets where he said she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” when he saw her at his Florida resort.

Brzezinski responded with a tweet that showcased a box of Cheerios that had on it, “made for little hands.” It was a reference to when Trump defended the size of his hands and penis during a Republican primary debate.

The press secretary at the time, Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the tweets:

I think the president has been attacked mercilessly on personal accounts, by members on that program, and I think he’s been very clear that when he gets attacked, he’s going to hit back… I think the American people elected somebody who’s tough, who’s smart and who’s a fighter and that’s Donald Trump.

The show hosts and Trump had had a long and contentious relationship. There have also been subsequent jabs at each other, such as when Brzezinski referred to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as “a wannabe-dictator’s butt boy,” for which she later apologized.

Trump has also accused Brzezinski’s husband and co-host Joe Scarborough of murder.
